Studio Profile:

Vishal kapur Surface Design Studio was set up in 2009 by Vishal Kapur, an alumnus of National Institute of Design- Ahmedabad. He is a hardcore experimentalist with design and craft. He has been actively involved in creating innovative collections for fashion applications. The studio has created a niche for itself by creating one of a kind ensembles conceptualised with experimental inspirations and unique layouts. The designer works closely with artisans from all over India giving them fresh directions for new product development which help them broaden their vision.Traditional crafts where the studio is highly active include appliqué and badla work from Aligarh, Gota work from Jaipur, block and screen printing from Sanganer(Jaipur) and handlooms from Mangalgiri, Kota, Banaras and Chanderi

Our Journey:

The realisation of a huge gap for availability of contemporary textiles with a flavour of traditional India was the starting point for the development of a range of ready to stitch Salwar Kameez ensembles, sarees and fabrics. The products use textiles exclusively designed and woven on the handlooms in Chanderi and Mangalgiri handloom clusters. The fabrics are then further value added in Rajasthan through natural dyes and traditional printing techniques using modern surface designs and layouts to create one of a kind garment concept. Dupattas are uniquely handcrafted on handlooms in Chanderi town, Madhya Pradesh or surfaced with embellishment techniques from Aligarh and Lucknow to coordinate with the prints developed in Rajasthan. The idea has been very well received in commercial markets and has become on of the several speciality products of the design Studio
